The Royal Australian Mint, Australia's national mint, is pleased to issue the official Australian Olympic coin program for 2004. The three exclusive products are sure to become a magnificent memento of the Sydney to Athens Journey for the Australian OlympicTeam.

The coins have been meticulously designed by the Mint's own designer, Wojciech Pietranik. The designs combine to reflect the journey from Sydney to Athens for the Australian Olympic Team as well as the history, culture, peace and sporting excellence that the Athens Olympic Games will represent.

In continuing our commitment to producing the highest quality product we are pleased to provide a world first for an Olympic Coin with the Australian Olympic Team logo being produced as a hologram. The history of the Games has been captured on the $5 uncirculated aluminium bronze coin featuring an ancient Greek athlete and an Indigenous Australian spear thrower. Their physique, prowess and stance above the Australian Team logo, is an expression of a noble link between these two cultures.

The continuing journey from Sydney to Athens is represented on the $5 fine silver proof hologram coins with the world-wide mintage of 15,000, the design links two iconic buildings; the Parthenon in the foreground and the Sydney Opera House in the background. The Australian Olympic Team logo is magnificently presented in holographic form.

Finally, the stunning three coin set with a world-wide mintage of just 2,500 sets, features the $5 uncirculated aluminium bronze coin, the $5 fine silver proof hologram coin and features the brilliant tri-metal proof coin exclusively available in the three coin set. The tri-metal coin design incorporates copper, fine silver and a 24-carat gold centre proudly supporting the hologram of the Australian Olympic Team logo.
